1. What is Wafer Single Plate Check Valve?

The single plate check valve is automatically held in a middle position by the flange connection bolts and hex nuts. It uses a swinging plate to prevent return flow in the piping system. The valve design allows them to be fitted in a tight space. The flow is restricted within the valve body because the flange connection is in place and there is not much room for the plate to open in the pipeline. The valve requires a low opening pressure to allow fluid to flow through. The valve is at the closing position and sealed with O-ring if the initial pressure is higher than the entrance pressure. The single plate check valve has a molded body that creates room for the plate to swing in a fully opening position. This feature allows the system to operate in full flow. It is applicable when the full port valve is required in certain system applications.

Single plates check valve helps to provide quick access when system cleaning or other service maintenance is needed. The short takeout lengths work much in the same way as another type of swing check valves. It is basically a one-way valve in which the flow can fun freely in one direction. It is suitable for water supply, chemical-petrochemical, and blower system application which the sector industrial have limited space.

2. What are the main components of a Single Plate Check Valve?

The single plate check valve is made from basic parts as per below: 


  • Body: The shell body is the primary pressure boundary of the valve. The major part that exposes to fluid directly. It serves as the principal element of valve assembly as it holds the valve connection. The body size determines the valve pressure performance.

  • O-ring: It is suited to be a compressed, static seal between non-moving parts. O-ring is used to block a path that may allow a fluid escape.

  • Disc: The disc provides the capability to permit or prohibit fluid flow. When the disc is closed, the system pressure is depressurized. The disc is typically forged and hard surface to provide good wear characterizes.

  • Eye Bolt: To use on the hook and move the valve location.

3. What is Single Plate Check Valve testing?

The single plate check valve is not designed to handle any kind of impact and does avoid dropping or throwing the valves as it may create valve scratches or damage in its own function. To avoid valve contact with any coal tar creosote, vermicides, insecticides, or paint. Carry the valve in the correct position by holding side by side body. Do not let the disc fall down as it will loosen the tightness of the disc. Keep the valve in a room temperature environment and avoid direct sunlight.


The single plate check valve inspects and tests according to API 598. The standard comes with its own acceptable leakage rates for water, oil, and gas application. According to API 598, no visible leakage is permitted for shell and back seat testing. For liquid medium, there shall be no visible evidence of drops from body surfaces. There is no leakage shall be revealed by detection method if the test fluid is either gas or air. However, there is an allowable rate for leakage of test fluid past the seats for the duration of the tests.

***Please take note that 1 milliliter is equivalent to 16 drops.

4. Single Plate Check Valve commissioning & operation

Step 1:

Check the working pressure, environment temperature, valve material, flow direction before single plate check valve commissioning.

Step 2:

It is essential to flush the piping system thoroughly to remove the particles or impurities that could damage the equipment at the beginning.

Step 3:

Ensure the corresponding warning signs are displayed on the installation area in case of danger.

Step 4:

The warming-up of the system shall be a gradual test to avoid any inadmissible stress. Check the installation tightness in the valve connection and retighten crosswise if necessary. This step is important to prevent leakage when the system running.

6. What is the Single Plate check valve disassembly process?

Step 1:

Pressureless the system, the medium must be cool and drain the fluid from the pipeline.

Step 2:

Loosen the connection by removing nuts from the bolt body.

Step 3:

Lastly, remove the single plate check valve from the pipeline

A proper installation method is important in order to maximize the valve productivity.


  • Conduct a safety checklist on the machine tools before beginning work installation. 

  • Wear protective gloves and safety goggles.

  • Do not mount the single plate check valve directly on the pump outlet or use the valve for the pulsating fluid. 

  • Ensure there is no tension, compression, bending, or excessive stress when connecting pipe and valve.

The single plate check valve is applicable to both vertical and horizontal piping applications. Use the valve where fluid travels upwards for vertical piping installation.

Install the valve in between two flanges and the o-ring is attached together with the valve. Confirm the contact surface is free of impurities that may compromise the tightness during installation.

Insert one or two bolts and tighten the bolts and hex nuts temporarily by hand at the beginning without forcing.


Insert the balance bolts and tighten them with hex nuts diagonally and gradually. A torque wrench tool is using to measure bolt and nuts torque value to ensure an effective installation.
